Preparing for a Radon Testing Exercise in Home Inspection Work

Radon is not easy to detect, since it is colorless and odorless, but it is nonetheless likely present in a property you are interested in acquiring. It is a danger to your health. You need Battle Ground home inspections to come in and do certain tests, to tell how much of it is present, and how to get rid of it. These inspectors are therefore important whenever a property goes up for sale.

For effective testing they need to focus their work in places like the basement, or any other low area. You then need to determine the length of the test, and the time of the test. Tests should last more than two days. Nothing should interfere with the progress of the test.

There are special gadgets used in such a test. Battle Ground home inspector have said equipment, as they are qualified to use them. You can tell what the latest equipment is from the relevant health and safety authorities in your area.

You will see some active and passive radon test kits. Passive ones operate without electricity. They should only be exposed to the air in the test area for a given period. They are then collected and sent to a lab for analysis. These passive gadgets serve their purpose in both long and short-term testing. They are not that expensive. They are also great at minimizing the negative impact of interferences to the test.

Active testing kits on the other hand need electricity to work. They have continuous radon monitors and continuous working level monitors. They shall thus keep recording and measuring the radon amounts and the decay products in the air. They are also effective at telling when there are radon level spikes. The inspectors shall then explain what those spikes mean. These will show you which parts of the results were spikes, and why they should not be factored in. They are thus the more reliable kits for such tests.

To make sure that the results are not tampered with by the interferences, you need a device that shall not stop recording the levels as time goes. By having a motion detector around, you shall know when there was an interference. It also tells if there have been changes in the test conditions. The proximity detectors are used to show when people walked into the test area. Those are some of the things that interfere with the results.

It is by also understanding the weather conditions during the test that you can tell how effective the results were. Ensuring the temperature is another way of telling if there was an intrusion. The windows and doors should have been kept sealed.

As an act of good faith, there should be a non-interference agreement signed before inspectors start working. Such are the primary requirements for a good inspection job on the premises.
